Meet the Mansfield High School Choirs
CONCERT
TREBLE
The Concert Treble Choir is primarily made up of Freshmen Soprano and Altos entering into the MHS Choir Department. This choir works on vocal pedagogy, quality choral literature, sight-reading and music reading skills, choral etiquette, music theory, and music appreciate. Members of Concert Treble will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year.
CONCERT TENOR-BASS
The Concert Tenor-Bass Choir is primarily made up of Tenors and Basses entering into the MHS Choir Department. This choir works on vocal pedagogy, quality choral literature, sight-reading and music reading skills, choral etiquette, music theory, and music appreciate. Members of the Concert Tenor-Bass Choir will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year.
BELLA VOCE
The Bella Voce Choir is primarily made up of intermediate to advanced level Sopranos and Altos who have demonstrated an understanding and mastery of basic to intermediate choral music skills. Members of Bella Voce will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year. Additionally, All-Region Choir auditions and/or participation in UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest is recommended.
VARSITY TENOR-BASS
The Varsity Tenor-Bass Choir is made up of Sophomore-Senior tenors and basses. Members of Varsity Tenor-Bass will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year. Additionally, members are encouraged to participate in auditions for the TMEA All-State Choir, UIL Solo & Ensemble, and are strongly encouraged to take voice lessons.
VARSITY TREBLE
The Varsity Treble Choir is made up of Sophomore-Senior sopranos and altos who have previous choral experience, a good academic history, and the ability to sight-read and move quickly through fast-paced rehearsals. Members of Varsity Treble will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year. Additionally, members are encouraged to participate in auditions for the TMEA All-State Choir, UIL Solo & Ensemble, and are strongly encouraged to take voice lessons.
A CAPPELLA
The A Cappella Choir is a mixed choir that performs music from all musical periods. This auditioned choir consists of sophomores - seniors. Both Varsity Treble and Varsity Tenor-Bass Choirs join together in evening rehearsals to form this choir. Members of A Cappella must have previous choral experience, a good academic history, and the ability to sight-read and move quickly through fast-paced rehearsals. Members of A Cappella will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year. Additionally, members are encouraged to participate in auditions for the TMEA All-State Choir, UIL Solo & Ensemble, and are strongly encouraged to take voice lessons. The members of A Cappella are required to attend evening rehearsals. The calendar of rehearsals is distributed during the beginning of the school year.
CHAMBER
The Mansfield Chamber Choir is an auditioned ensemble made of 32-36 students from the Varsity Tenor-Bass and Varsity Treble Choirs. This ensemble will focus primarily on upper level choral music from all genres. This group will be highly active within the community, and students must be available for possible engagements. It is essential that students be able to maintain good academic standing to be a part of this ensemble. Members of Chamber are double-blocked.
